Following its announcement, Flipboard's Mastodon community now has around 500 active members who have established accounts in order to participate on the decentralized social platform. Last month, Flipboard first announced it was joining the Fediverse with plans to integrate with Mastodon, launch its own Mastodon instance, flipboard.social and, later, add support for ActivityPub - the protocol powering Fediverse apps like Mastodon, which has benefited from the chaos surrounding Twitter after Elon Musk's acquisition. Flipboard CEO Mike McCue will also demonstrate the app's new Mastodon support in a session this morning at FediForum, an online event dedicated to discussions surrounding the challenges facing the Fediverse - the group of interconnected servers powering a range of open source, decentralized applications, including the newly popular Twitter alternative Mastodon. Distribute your content, and connect with your followers.Magazine app Flipboard is integrating Mastodon in its Android application, as the company broadens its commitment to the federated social web. The mobile apps on Android and iOS are much improved, too. With a new “create” icon, available on every page of their magazines, curators can write short notes to followers. Add original content to magazines, ask questions of your followers, or share a photo. With the new features, Flipboard is a great tool to have in your social media arsenal and a more robust way to build a community.

Kristina Tip #4: Once you get to a certain number of followers (she’s not sure just how many), you can get access to a Storyboard feature that is like a “mini magazine” and can be useful to create limited edition collections (my summary of the concept). Tons more people follow hashtags now as a way to get their version of news, which is across every topic imaginable.
Remember to study the various tags that relate to you. Kristina Tip #3: Like most platforms, the hashtag is clutch. The magazine format is a great way to visualize your work. Kristina Tip #2: Not everything you do on Flipboard needs to be public, you can set up a brainstorm group, or a project group, and share your ideas, documents, images, to a private list of people.
